Laurence reflects on starting One Degree in 2012 while attending Newman Catholic College. Although initially hesitant due to the weekend schedule, he quickly saw the value in it.
He shares how the program helped him academically, particularly in math and English, while also building his confidence and social skills, as he was naturally introverted.
Laurence highlights the impact of guest speakers, such as actor Riz Ahmed, who inspired him by sharing their success stories. After One Degree, Lawrence studied sports at college and later moved to the Philippines for a year. During his time there, he developed his passion for fashion design, leading to the creation of his clothing brand.
Laurence founded LEM Clothing, which has been running successfully for six years. Initially manufacturing in the Philippines, he later collaborated with Nike manufacturers but now prefers doing everything himself for more creative control.
Laurence shares his long-term vision for the brand, aiming to help charities focused on children while continuing his fashion journey.
He also discusses a collaboration with One Degree, creating custom designs for their shop.
His advice for students is to seize opportunities like One Degree, embrace personal growth, and pursue their passions despite challenges.
Laurence’s story is an inspiring journey from student to entrepreneur, highlighting the value of perseverance and creativity.
