We are delighted to welcome Save My Exams as a new learning resources partner of One Degree Mentoring, supporting our students and mentors with high-quality Maths resources.

At One Degree, our aim has always been to help young people build their self-belief while improving their academic performance. Our mentoring programme gives students personalised support from volunteers who are committed to helping them make progress both academically and personally. But we also recognise something important: we do not need to do everything ourselves.

Better support through collaboration

One Degree believes strongly in collaboration. There are brilliant organisations, charities and social enterprises doing specialist work across education and youth support. Rather than trying to recreate everything ourselves, we want to work with organisations that share our values and can bring knowledge, resources and expertise that strengthen the support we give young people. That is why we are so pleased to be working with Save My Exams.

Save My Exams provides a wide range of learning and revision resources for GCSE students, including Maths revision notes, exam questions, flashcards, mock exams and past papers across major exam boards. Through this partnership, these resources will help support the Maths learning taking place within One Degree mentoring sessions. Our mentors will have additional materials they can use when working alongside students, while students will have access to resources that can help them practise topics, identify areas they need to work on and prepare for their exams.

Giving mentors the tools to make a difference

Our volunteer mentors are at the heart of One Degree. A mentor does not have to arrive with an entire library of teaching materials or create every resource from scratch. Our job is to give them the support and tools they need so that their time can be focused on the young person sitting in front of them.

Maths is an important part of that support. We have seen over many years how increased engagement and belief can change the way young people approach the subject. One former Maths teacher working with One Degree students described seeing young people who had not previously considered GCSE success possible begin to realise that it was within their reach. Working with Save My Exams gives our mentors another practical resource to help turn that belief into progress.

Small and medium-sized organisations can achieve more together

This partnership also reflects something wider that we believe at One Degree. We want to work with other small and medium-sized organisations, charities, social enterprises and purpose-led businesses wherever there is an opportunity to help one another. The charity and education sectors contain an enormous amount of experience and knowledge, but organisations can too easily end up working separately towards very similar goals. We think there is another way.

When organisations collaborate, share resources and bring their individual strengths together, more time and energy can go towards the people we are all trying to support. For One Degree, partnership is not simply about growing our own organisation. It is about building relationships with people and organisations that can help create better opportunities for young people. Sometimes that means sharing expertise. Sometimes it means opening doors for one another. In this case, it means giving students and mentors access to additional educational resources that can strengthen the learning already happening through mentoring.

Continuing to build the support around our students

One Degree has been supporting young people since 2009, combining academic support with mentoring designed to develop confidence and self-belief. As we continue that work, we want to build a network around our students made up of organisations that genuinely care about education, opportunity and helping young people fulfil their potential.

We are very grateful to Save My Exams for becoming part of that network and for supporting the Maths learning of One Degree students. We are looking forward to seeing our students and mentors putting the resources to good use. And we hope this is one of many collaborations that demonstrate what can happen when organisations choose to work together rather than trying to do everything alone.
