“We began working with One Degree in March of 2024. The setup process was straight forward thanks to One Degree’s support. We offered the programme to our Year 11 students and Year 12 resit students, with a particular focus on those eligible for Pupil Premium and those whose post-16 or post 18 options would be significantly enhanced by moving up a grade in GCSE mathematics. The results were very positive. Students who engaged with One Degree made, on average, twice as much progress in maths between their February mock exams and the final GCSEs compared to their peers who did not participate. In addition to a measurable impact on attainment, students consistently spoke about how much they valued the support, encouragement, and structure that One Degree provided. Thanks to One Degree’s feedback to us and the data he shared, I was also able to share feedback with our careers team, highlighting how aspirational our students had become in discussing their future goals.” ~ Ark John Keats

“I write to offer my unreserved support and offer my commendation to the work of One Degree. I have worked alongside this organisation for ten years in two different schools and, as a result, have the authority to pass positive judgment on their work. As a Head teacher in the London Borough of Brent, One Degree supported some of the most underprivileged pupils in my school to flourish in their GCSEs. My most overriding memory of this period was the Sunday revision and examination preparation days they put on. High-level tuition, superb organisation and high-quality resources. The impact was immense, and many of these young men (it was a boys’ school) achieved GCSE grades much higher than their target grades. This is life-changing. Earlier this year, now in a new school, in the London Borough of Ealing, my paths crossed with Roger Wynne-Dyke and One Degree once more. I cannot overestimate my regard for the work that once more was delivered to support our Pupil Premium Year 11 students. On this occasion, the tuition was provided to the students, online and in the evening. Again, the impact of One Degree was notable. I have worked in London schools since 1988 and have been a senior leader and Head teacher since 2000. As a consequence, I have come across many external organisations that offer support for underprivileged young people. There is no doubt in my mind that One Degree is the best I have come across. They have a clear ethos, are superbly organised, and the results speak for themselves.” ~ Cardinal Wiseman / Newman Catholic College

“Our partnership with One Degree has been highly beneficial for our students. The tailored tutoring, mentoring and engaging resources provided by the programme have had a tangible, positive impact on our students’ academic progress, confidence, and overall personal development. The flexibility of the One Degree team, particularly during the challenges of the pandemic, were invaluable, and their approach has consistently aligned with our school’s mission to provide exceptional education and experiences to every child, every day. We would not hesitate to recommend the One Degree programme to other institutions seeking a meaningful and effective partnership to support student outcomes.” ~ Mulberry Academy Woodside

“I have worked with this organisation for many years and have been deeply impressed by their commitment and capacity to deliver. As Deputy Headteacher of Newman Catholic College in 2012 I first came across One Degree working on a Saturday morning in a local school. Their organization instantly impressed me in its organisation and understanding of how to motivate young people. By 2013 I was Headteacher at Newman Catholic College and eagerly embraced a relationship with One Degree that had a profound impact upon the GCSE results on the Year 11 cohort. During our first year working together One Degree took over the school every Saturday and Sunday. They trained and pushed high quality mentors to work with the students in small groups. This was combined with inspirational presentations and quality mentoring. In essence this mold continued for the next two years. Both parties were keen to develop the relationship beyond 2015 but circumstances would not allow for the arrangement to continue. I have maintained contact with One Degree since 2015 and the door is always open to future collaboration. At least One Degree is an organisation dedicated to improving the lives of inner city children. They are passionate about their vision. Many of my ex pupils now work for One Degree in a mentor capacity and the feedback from these young people is universally positive. As a result I am a committed supporter of this organisation and share its vision for inner city education. It can only have a positive impact and should be welcomed by all those who advocate the principles of education as a transformational power. I can therefore endorse One Degree without reservation.” ~ Newman Catholic College

"77% of the students who had taken part in the One Degree achieved 5A*-C including English and Maths..."

“I am writing to share with you the successful outcomes of our partnership with One Degree over the last academic year. During the academic year of 2015/16, Woodside High School had 49 students enrolled on the One Degree programme. These students had been carefully identified as they were at risk of not achieving C grades in their English and Maths GCSEs. One Degree worked with these 49 students on Saturdays to prepare them for their final GCSE examinations. The Saturdays were carefully planned to include specialist teaching in Maths and English, mentoring with high quality mentors and team building activities. On each Saturday the students also heard from inspiring and motivational guest speakers. Throughout the academic year, One Degree liaised carefully with our own Heads of Department, sharing data and ensuring that the teaching being delivered on Saturdays was targeted and specific to the individual student needs. We were delighted in the summer to learn that our overall school results had increased by a massive 30%, from 44% 5A*-C including English and Maths in 2015 to 74% in 2016. 77% of the students who had taken part in the One Degree achieved 5A*-C including English and Maths. These outcomes were particularly impressive given the fact that very few of these students had been predicted to achieve C grades and above. Whilst the results were important, it was also very pleasing to note that students’ attitudes improved over the course of the programme. Students grew in confidence and resilience and felt more able to face the pressures of the GCSE exams and to look beyond school to make choices about their future. We are clear that the mentoring from One Degree and listening to the guest speakers had a clear impact on our students. Over the course of the last year we have found One Degree to be highly professional and organised. The communication from the One Degree team has been exemplary and fitted around our needs as a school. We have already begun to plan our One Degree programme for our current Year 11 cohort of students and are looking forward to seeing such an impressive impact again. The vision and values of One Degree are very similar to those we hold as a school. One Degree believes in removing barriers and giving young people the opportunity to succeed. This is particularly important in a school like Woodside High School, where the vast majority of our students receive the Pupil Premium and speak English as an additional language. Woodside High is located in an area of significant socio-economic deprivation, and as a school we look for every chance to offer our students the opportunity to succeed. The outcomes achieved by the students who took part in the One Degree programme speak for themselves. We endorse One Degree without reservation.” ~ Woodside High School
